Cherita, safe and healthy

All vine ripened cherry tomatoes produced by Cherita growers come from a closed cultivation system. This means that no residual substances enter the environment. Besides, the tomatoes are grown off the soil, as a result of which the so-called 'disease pressure' in the crop is lower and plants are not dependent on minerals in the ground. Cultivation is based on the European standards according to Eurep-GAP with respect to energy consumption, crop protection and water management, among other things.

All crop protection treatments are permanently registered during cultivation. In order to guarantee food safety, Cherita growers have opted for a cultivation method which is as organic as possible. This means that diseases and pests are controlled by means of natural enemies, such as ichneumon flies, mites and assassin bugs. Bumblebees are used for pollination of the tomatoes, flying permanently in the greenhouse during the flowering season.

Cherita growers comply with the strictest hygienic standards during harvesting and packing of the vine ripened cherry tomatoes. One of the most important guidelines is undoubtedly the UK Standard, a strivt British hygiene guideline which is considered and accepted as such by many countries. Cherita growers participate annually in audits in order to guarantee continued compliance with standards such as Eurep-GAP and the UK Standard.
